About the Book

Family of Spies is a riveting work of narrative nonfiction by Christine Kuehn that uncovers a hidden chapter of Cold War history through the lens of her own family. What begins as a personal quest for understanding becomes a startling investigation into decades of covert activity, revealing how ordinary Americans were drawn into the shadowy world of espionage. As Kuehn pieces together classified documents, government records, and long-buried family secrets, she exposes the emotional toll of secrecy, loyalty, and betrayal across generations.

Set against the tense backdrop of mid-20th-century global politics, Family of Spies explores the human cost of living double lives and the lasting impact of ideological commitment on family bonds. Blending memoir, history, and investigative journalism, the book illuminates how private lives intersect with national security—and how truth, once uncovered, can reshape identity and legacy.
