Legally Speaking with Rabbi Shawn
Meeting ID: 507 999 9779 | Passcode: 5787 | Zoom
This class explores how contemporary issues are addressed through Teshuvot, the Legal Responsa of the Conservative movement. Teshuvot reflects the living, evolving process by which Jewish law engages with real questions of modern life, from medical ethics to communal practice. By reading and discussing these responsa together, we’ll gain insight into the sources, reasoning, and values that shape Conservative halakhic decision-making, and the balance they strike between tradition and change.
No prior legal knowledge is necessary. Whether you’re deeply familiar with halakhic texts or encountering them for the first time, this class offers a welcoming space to explore, question, and discuss how Jewish law speaks to the issues of our time.
