Aviv: Har Zion's 20's & 30's
Who We Are:
Aviv is a vibrant group for young adults in their 20's and 30's. Named after the Hebrew word for "spring," Aviv is dedicated to making Jewish life flourish for young adults, and to helping rejuvenate the whole community. Aviv is for men and women; singles, young marrieds, and young parents; members and non-members of Har Zion. At Aviv, you can "come as you are," hang out with old friends and meet new ones, and gather for social events (informal Shabbat and holiday meals, parties, movie nights, game nights, etc.), religious/educational opportunities, and social action projects.
What We Want:
Aviv seeks to provide opportunities for young Jewish adults to grow spiritually and intellectually, as well as to engage socially.- Aviv seeks to build at and within Har Zion Temple a vibrant and engaged young adult community, connecting young Philadelphia/Main Line Jews to each other and to Torah, and in the process, invigorating the larger Har Zion community.
- Aviv seeks to create avenues for young adults to become involved in synagogue life at Har Zion, and to cultivate new leadership within the community.
What We Do:
- Kehillah - Community
From Shabbat and holiday meals at Rabbi and Adira Knopf's home to happy hours, barbecues, bowling, and movie nights, we are constantly finding ways to get together, hang out, make new friends, network, and have a good time. Come and check us out some time. We know you will feel right at home! - Torah - Study
Aviv hosts on-going learning opportunities in a wide variety of formats, such as “Torah on Tap” study sessions at local bars, in-home programs, and online learning, in addition to promoting some of the vibrant learning already taking place at Har Zion. - T'fillah - Prayer
Looking for innovative and spiritual prayer? Stick with Aviv! Har Zion's alternative services, the “Essential Rosh HaShanah,” "Essential Yom Kippur," and “Essential Shabbat” are exciting opportunities to experience Jewish prayer as never before, and they were created with Aviv in mind. These services are professionally-run havurah/independent minyan style services, done in an informal setting and with a more relaxed atmosphere. They feature more participatory, Carlebach-style melodies; engaging and relevant learning; and a lively, energetic feel. - Tikkun - World Repair
Aviv is committed to partnering with the larger Har Zion community in making the world a better place. From helping with the Martin Luther King Day of Service to participating in regular Blood Drives to preparing meals for those in need, Aviv is passionate about repairing the world.
